Mr. & Mrs. Hackett

I almost don’t even know how to talk about Francie and Coline’s Mount Palomar Winery wedding photos. I’d never heard of Mount Palomar Winery before they booked it, and the photos that popped up on Google did not give me a good picture of the place. So when the team and I showed up on a rainy Friday morning for the wedding, we were awestruck by this wedding venue!! Legit, if you’re looking for a stunning wedding venue in Temecula, book this place.

As always, I’m blogging the album pages from this amazing wedding, but at the bottom, there’s a special surprise out of the norm!

This destination wedding was fantastic from start to finish. And the start of the day was rain and gloom. By the time we arrived at the venue, though, the blue sky was starting to peek through, and the day was warming up. (Because everyone knows that November in California is still basically summer.) Temecula has never looked more beautiful, with the vines starting to turn autumnally gold, the clouds giving us beautifully diffused light, and the venue itself simple and unique.

Even with cloudy skies, the day started off beautifully. The team and I started with details, and Mount Palomar offers some great backdrops to shoot against. There’s so much variety at this venue! Added bonus: Heather of HCD Weddings created the most beautiful autumn bridal bouquet, which was the perfect tie in for all our detail photos.

Vicki, who is one of our associate/lead photographers, actually shot this wedding with me. You see, Colin is my best friend’s college best friend. A decade ago, we spent a ton of time together, and with all the college friends back together again, I knew I’d want to set my camera down and enjoy myself. That also meant that during the really touching moments, I got to be present and enjoy the day!

Unsurprisingly, Vicki absolutely nailed these photos of Colin and his mom. I haven’t seen “mom first looks” floating around on the internet, so maybe we’ll start a trend.

Whilst Vicki was getting those amazing photos of Colin and his mom, I had the joy of capturing Francie’s getting ready. I think one of the things I most love about how brides get ready is their tendency to incorporate their special people. Francie’s mom and maid of honour both helped button up her dress. (Hot tip: if you’re wearing a button up dress, buy a few crochet hooks for the day of. Your ladies will thank you.) Then her sisters-in-law helped with her garter and shoes, which are both nearly impossible to do by yourself on the wedding day.

Another super special moment was the first look for Francie and her dad and brothers. Legitimately too precious for words.

Just before sharing their first look, Colin opened Francie’s gift to him.

Oh yeah, Colin is a crier. And it’s adorable. I love nothing more than seeing a groom cry over his bride.

Francie’s turn to open Colin’s gift to her. It’s hard to see in these photos, but it was a beautiful aquamarine pendant! (Aquamarine is her birthstone.)

I can’t believe I hadn’t had the chance to photograph a wedding at Mount Palomar before, but I am absolutely IN LOVE with this venue!!! From top to bottom, it’s so picturesque. This tunnel of vines is stunning.

One thing I love about Temecula in the fall is that, unlike everywhere else in California, the leaves are actually turning. Here, the vines gave us that real autumn feel.

Such a good looking wedding party!

Love the bridesmaids in their mismatched dresses!

And the guys were looking extra GQ on this day.

The sun came through the trees in the most stunning way, giving a gorgeous backdrop for family formals. (I’m telling you, Mount Palomar Winery wedding photos are the best!!! I love this place!)

I love these sweet photos of Francie and her grandma!

The ceremony offers an incredible backdrop! And between Heather of HCD Weddings, and Francie and Colin, these details were incredible.

(I told you he was a crier!!)

Okay, historically, the couple’s recessional is one of my favourite moments of the day. But never have I ever seen this happen: After Mr. & Mrs. Hackett walked back up the aisle, their moms linked arms and followed (with the dads just behind). It was so sweet and symbolic of the unity these two families have. (We’ve even talked about doing family photos together!)

Brides twirling: normally something I adore. Francie twirling: even better! I just loved the look of pure joy on her face.

And Francie and I agreed that Colin was a little extra James Bond in this photo. So badass.

See how unbelievably gorgeous this place is? I want to shoot at Mount Palomar every weekend!!! Total dream-come-true venue.

Francie and Colin were such great sports. The team and I asked them to run up and down these stairs at sunset several times so we could get an amazing shot. It was hard work… and hopefully they also thought it was worth it.

Love that Temecula blue sky!!

Reception décor was on point! Because Temecula can get really cold at night, I especially loved the blankets on the way into the reception. Handmade sign by Francie.

I don’t think I’ve ever loved a reception this much. Every detail was perfection.

It’s too bad the wedding party lacked personality… 😉

Okay, coolest thing ever: Francie’s brothers wrote a song and performed it for them instead of their toast/speech. It was such a unique and special experience.

Introducing Wedding Videography

For years (since 2012), I’ve been wanting to add videography into my menu of services. As a wedding photographer, it’s probably the number one request we get, actually. Couples love to have teams that work well together, and it makes sense for photo and video to be a packaged deal.

One of my favourite things about being able to do both for Francie and Colin was the opportunity it gave me to step back and act as creative director for the day. I was there overseeing everything, whilst I had an associate/lead photographer and an associate/lead videographer. It was such a great way to keep a cohesive vision and cooperative effort for the Hackett’s wedding day.

Colin and Francie, thank you for including me and my team at your wedding! We had such an amazing time partying it up with you and you friends. And we all loved having the chance to do Mount Palomar Winery wedding photos and video!
