Mary & Jon {part 1}

Mary & Jon’s Huntington Gardens engagement photos in Pasadena were straight up dreamy. Being born and bred in Southern California, I’m more than a little ashamed to admit that this was my first trip to Huntington Library. (Shh, nobody tell Mary – I might lose a friend if you do.)

To say the location more than exceeded my expectations would be the understatement of the century. Huntington Gardens turned out to be the most beautiful location I’ve ever been in the Los Angeles area (probably in all of Southern California), and I’m not ashamed to admit it.

I had no idea that the gardens were themed. We walked straight to a garden that reminded me so much of Paris I had to double check my GPS.

Best of all, Mary and Jon have annual passes to Huntington Library and really know their way around. Mary knew exactly the spots she wanted to hit, and we moved with purpose.

This sweet spot was Jon’s pick, and I personally loved everything about the fountain (and the goose who photobombed), the roses around us, and the beautiful house behind these two. Extra cool factor: these statues along the lawn.

Mary and Jon cracked me up the entire session. These hilarious photos are commonly known to their friend group as their sitcom poses.

The children’s garden is a favourite for both Jon and Mary. I’m not saying we spent too much time there… but we did get more than a little diverted by all the fun things.

Of course, there’s no better time than spring to do engagement photos at Huntington Gardens. Everything was in bloom, and lucky for us, there were purple flowers everywhere!

(Not that I like these purple wisteria vines cascading down or anything. Obviously.) 😉

Real talk, though, the rose garden was my absolute favourite. I couldn’t get enough of it!

On our way to the children’s garden, we found this super cool random wall. If you know me at all, you know I’m obsessed with vines (and even use #thislittlevineofmine on Instagram to document my finds). Bonus: the beautiful daffodils just getting ready to bloom.

Japanese garden engagement photos at Huntington Gardens

Of all the places we walked through at Huntington gardens, we spent the most time in the Japanese gardens. Honestly, we could have spent twice as much time. There was so much to see – I doubt we even got to half of it! Oh, and did I mention these love birds are headed to Japan for their honeymoon?

P.S. Isn’t Mary’s pineapple dress adorable? 100% it made me want my own tropical dress.

This bridge in the Chinese gardens was to die for. Probs got a million photos here, and I’m not sorry about it.

Speaking of favourites… Not only was the light perfect in this spot, I actually keeled over and died with love for its perfection.

Wait for it…

Did I mention there were cherry blossoms galore? GALORE. We didn’t plan it, but we certainly couldn’t have been at Huntington Gardens at a better time of year.

Loved this bridge in the Japanese gardens…

K,  is it just me or are these two adorable? (It’s ridiculous. I can’t handle it.)

Mary and I both felt like this pathway (below) was straight out of Lord of the Rings.

Oh, did I forget to mention Mary’s incredible garnet engagement ring?! I’ve seen a lot of non-diamond engagement rings, but this ranks at the top for me.

Le sigh. Truly sad this session is behind us. More sad that I have to wait a whole year to document the wedding behind this awesome duo. In case you missed it, part 2 of Mary and Jon’s engagement photos is already on the blog. (Find that here.)

Check back next May for the gloriousness that is their May 4th wedding!

Mary and Jon, thank you for making these Huntington Library engagement photos happen! I’m so excited we made this work. Love you guys and can’t wait for the wedding.
