Candice + Evan

There’s something extra special about Candice and Evan’s Crystal Cove State Park engagement photos. I want to say it’s because of Candice’s classy style, or because of the way Evan makes her smile. It could also be attributed to their cosiness. Or maybe it was the perfect beach sunset we got.

In all honesty, though, Candice and Evan have that special something when they’re together. It’s a joie de vivre, a confidence in who they are. It’s calm and passion simultaneously. I see in them what I love about so many couples, but I can’t quite put it into words. Whatever it’s called, whatever it is, they have it, and their photos were fire because of it!

I’ve shot dozens of engagement sessions at Crystal Cove, but when I parked to meet up with these two, I realised that we were in totally different places. The Crystal Cove I’ve always gone to is very different locationally from the beach Candice grew up going to. Ultimately, because Evan had proposed on the south side of Crystal Cove beach, that’s where we decided to meet up. I got more than a little lost, but once we finally met up, I was so happy to discover a new side of Crystal Cove!

First, we started with the hiking trails at Crystal Cove. No, we weren’t dressed for hiking. Yes, we still rocked it.

A lot of my couples tend to be on the more serious side… with an epic ability to be totally silly and fun. I LOVE this series of Candice and Evan striking different poses.

Candice’s hat is AMAZING. The photo on the right below is one I’ve pictured for years, and I’m so so happy I finally got it!

These berries are a total happy accident! They matched my duo perfectly, and P.S. this was also a totally adorable spot to stop for a second. How freaking cute are they?!

Beach engagement photos

After finding that perfect berry-filled spot, we moved our Crystal Cove State Park engagement photos to the beach… just in time for the most beautiful sunset I’ve seen in a long time. And also, it was January, so the beach was pretty much empty. (Every photographer’s dream!)

The ocean colours!!! It actually reminded me of Hawaii (like Heather and Brad’s honeymoon photos!)

When I get to play with my double exposures, I’m a happy girl! Candice and Evan were patient as I climbed in the water for this shot. 🙂

Totally did not have to photoshop this seagull in the photo! It just flew perfectly into view.

Real talk? I love when my couples are up for some adventure at the end. Candice and Evan were such great sports as we all ran into the (freezing cold January) waves!!!

It was worth it. These photos were probably my favourites from our entire session.

Candice and Evan, I can’t wait for your wedding in August! (Even if it does mean coming back early from Kauai!)
